Why Blinds Should Really Be Your First And Only Choice

Window coverings come in many different shapes and sizes. While drapes have been around for longer in many parts of the world, they are slowly, but surely, being surpassed by blinds. If you have just completed a redesign of your home or are planning to construct a new house from scratch, then you need to make up your mind on how you want your window coverings to look. Before you make any decision, here are a few reasons why you may want to stick with blinds as your window coverings of choice, and why drapes really shouldn't factor into the equation.

Ease Of Use

Blinds are extremely easy to use, even for those who have mobility issues and struggle to get up and down as quickly as they used to. All you need to be able to do is access the rope controls, and you can change anything you want, from how far the blinds are rolled down to the amount of light let in and so on. Drapes almost always require you to get up out of your seat, and trying to get an exact amount of light to come in is virtually impossible with how thick and heavy they are.

Customized To Your Needs

One of the great reasons why blinds remain so popular and are gaining on drapes is because they can be customized to fit any opening or hole. Drapes really only work on large windows which finish near the floor. Smaller windows look rather silly with curtains, and also let more light in underneath the drapes if they do not reach the floor. Blinds also absorb less smell and aromas than drapes, which are made out of fabric and do not work well in rooms like the toilet or the kitchen, whereas blinds work everywhere.

Easy To Clean

If you want to clean your drapes you will need to unhook them completely, beat them soundly outside, and then wash them on a long cycle before hanging them up to air dry so they don't shrink or lose their shape. Blinds, on the other hand, do not need to be pulled down to clean. All you need are some paper towels or a duster and you will be done in a couple of minutes at the most. If you hate the idea of cleaning a lot, then blinds are right up your alley and you should always prioritize them over drapes.
